Artist's Comments

I know a lot of people have given John K praise 'n' such for his "genius" and even I admit his first season of Ren and Stimpy was anything short of cleverness, but nowadays I've grown so tired of him complaining about shows past and present that have obviously been as successful as his, as well as constantly comparing them to Bob Clampett/Robert McKimson. Another nag to mention is that, truthfully, over time his style has grown visually ugly, especially after what he did to Yogi Bear...!

TBF, some of his points on making good modern-day cartoons are true, but he presents them in such a negative manner it's downright cynical, not to mention that he tends to repeat/contradict himself - a lot.

Now before any Spumco fans set loose the hounds, I'd just like to say that any art form - cartoons included - is about stating opinions: there's no right or wrong most of the time, just different viewpoints.

Really, I don't think you have to worry too much about this - anyone who takes offense at it could surely find better things to do with their time.

I agree with you 100% on this, especially on the part about style becoming ugly, I love the original Ren and Stimpy, but when the Adult version came the characters looked really ugly.

See, I think the Ren and Stimpy characters always looked ugly and pretty much most of cartoon of today and since the mid to late 90s have been ugly. But that's just my opinion. I grew up and watched cartoons when I feel when cartoons had reached their peak and prime, the 80s. However, I'm more of a fan of the "cute" cartoons anyway as my main influences were the Smurfs and Disney cartoons from the same era. They just don't make cartoons like that anymore and it's a shame that the mainstream style had to change so drastically. But like I said, that is my opinion and how I feel. I can't really agree with this John K person (I don't really know who it is) when I think his cartoons (you said Ren and Stimpy are his cartoons?) already looked ugly to begin with. My opinion, though.

The grotesque hook-nose fits John to a T.

Since John and his cronies (who shall remain nameless) have pretty much sucked the fun out of talking about cartoons on the internet, this hit fairly close to home.

I agree. People don't see cartoons for their animation!

You're correct, he is an egotistical jerk. He thinks he's the president of cartoonists or something.

I was especially pissed off when he used a drawing of yours to signify both 'Tude and unappealing characters.

I mean, he says a bunch of really smart stuff, but at the cost of his popularity.

I didn't see 'tude in that drawing at all.

I'm guessing he's just sour at you for drawing Animaniacs characters once.
